Netherlands: Moroccans don't want Moroccan gov't to intervene

The Moroccan government missed the mark with its plan of tightening the connection with the Moroccan community. The Cooperation of Moroccans in the Netherlands (SMN) thinks the proposal is "undesirable and not of this time any more."

Last week the Moroccan minister Mohammed Ameur announced that his country will encourage the Arab language and culture among people of Moroccan background living outside the country. According to him they belong to the 17th province of Morocco.

According to the Cooperation the integration and the emancipation of the Moroccan community isn't helped by whatever influences, including that of the Moroccan government. "We stand for an orientation on the Netherlands"

The SMN thinks that Moroccan-Dutch themselves should decide how they want to organize their own language. More than that, most of them are Berbers and not Arabs. They don't want to have this language imposed on them.

Last week the cabinet announced it wanted clarifications from Moroccan about Ameur's plan.
