Amsterdam: Ramadan festival's last stop

The Ramadan Festival team has given out about one thousand meals, 3,600 cups of tea and more than 5,000 cookies over the past month. The festival toured the Netherlands in order to acquaint people with the Muslim month of fasting.

On Thursday the festival bus will serve its last Ramadan meal at the Dam in Amsterdam.

Hundreds of thousands of Muslims in the Netherlands have been fasting for the past couple of week. Soon they'll end the Ramadan with Eid ul-Fitr. In the Muslim world there are differing opinions about when the month begins and ends exactly. Turkish Muslims celebrate Eid ul-Fitr on Sunday. Muslims from the Arab world, such as Moroccans, will only know on Saturday if they will end the month of fasting on Sunday or Monday.

Mayor Job Coehn will address the visitors of the festival on Thursday. The event will conclude with an appearance by rapper Lange Frans.
