Bern: Three Hindus arrested for wanting to burn Koran, Bible

On Thursday the Swiss Police arrested three men who intended to burn a Bible and a Koran in front of the Federal Palace in Bern. The Hindus were then interrogated by the police. The men intended to burn the books Friday night.

The police learned about the men's intentions via the media. At the time of the arrest they had two Korans and two Bibles by them. One of the men, Vinodh Kumar, said that he's ready to die for the cause.

They men - two Indians (Kumar and Titus Leo Panakal) and one Swiss (Jean-Louis Sterren) - chose the square in front of the Federal Palace in order to attract attention. Panakal told Blick.ch that both books call for pornography and terrorism and are the work of Satan.

The prosecution opened an investigation into the case. Religious discrimination and incitement to violence can face a penalty of up to three years in Switzerland.
